my Journey.

Hello,

My name is Angie Winburn and I’m a Hard Edge Glass artist. One of the few, if not the only, and first here in the US. I live and work in Renton, WA.  I’ve been blessed enough to be able to pursue my passion as a professional artist and purpose in helping others not just survive domestic abuse and sexual violence but thrive. I'll tell more on that later.

From the moment I understood what art and artist was, I knew that is what I was going to do and be. It just took me awhile to get here.

In my 8th grade year (1984-85) I had a painted mural shown at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. Even then I used bright colors and hard lines to express the freedom of dance and performance. In high school I received accolades for my art from the Carson City Rotary Club in Carson City, Nevada. My first experience with glass was in the early millennium. I had discovered lamp-working and loved to sit for hours on end creating and selling handmade glass beads.                                                                      Itty Bitty: Bead annealer turned

                                                                                                                                                             into fusing Queen!

Then, in 2005, my wife and I moved to the Seattle area so I could attend

University. I got my undergrad degree in computer graphics and animation.

Then in 2014 I went again and in 2018 secured my MFA in illustration. The

stress of paying bills and student loans as well as some healing took importance,

so I went to work in retail, a job I was familiar with.

Then came a Blessing. I got injured on the job and was unable to continue performing my duties without a lot of stress, pain, and difficulty.  I made the decision to quit and pursue my art career full time. It was the best decision I ever made because never in my life had I felt so broken, physically, and mentally. This happened a couple of months before the pandemic hit.

I spent some time trying to heal in both respects and was

making little progress until my wonderful wife bought me

some stained glass and a few supplies for my birthday.

That was when the healing truly began. It took about a year,

but I made a multi-media piece called TranZention.

In late 2021 I opened a shop in Etsy selling copper foiled

stained-glass pieces and had some success. In 2023 I came

across Linda Rossiter (glass art by linda), an artist in the UK,

in my Instagram feed. She pioneered Contemporary Hard Edge Glass and I instantly fell

in Love with the bright colors and geometric designs. This kind of design has aligned

with me from an early age, and I knew I had to bring it to the US.

So, I took a class to see if it was something I could do and now here I am, making beautiful, colorful art that makes my heart sing.  I hope you'll take this next part of the journey with me.
